Linda Hagopian and Debbie Ruane Sparks are co-authoring a series of early reader books that highlights the role of the truck driver and focuses on their role as American Heroes. Hagopian, a former consultant for the Truckload Carriers Association, and Sparks, the former director of marketing for the American Truckers Associations, who is transitioning to the role of CEO for Women in Trucking early next year, launched their book, entitled, "The Red, White and Blue Party," earlier this month on October 4, 2019.

According to Fleet Owner Magazine,  this first book is part of a new set of early reader books called the "Tripp Wheeler Adventures," published under the 10-4 Good Buggy name. As indicated by Fleet Owner Reporter John Hitch, "These books fill in the blanks on what happens in a trucker's life before and after they hit the road. The lead character Tripp, and his dog sidekick Detour face logistical issues such as a malfunctioning reefer trailer and a nefarious owner-operator named Rusty Hooligan."

The authors say there is an adoration that truck drivers build with children when kids pull that imaginary chain and a truck driver responds with a booming honk. They note that kids think trucking is cool and hope to expand on that initial impression. They think the new book, illustrated by Kenny Kiernan, may also lead to more drivers in a decade or more.

“We see a disconnect with how the industry is portrayed in the media and reality, and believe more good stories can be told,” said Hagopian, a former consultant for the Truckload Carriers Association. “As we write the books and think about telling the story of a truck driver’s life, we see how there is a very positive message and a potential of having a positive effect on the industry’s image." The authors also want to reinforce the idea that truck drivers, while they may not work with robots or 3d printers, are true American Heroes.
